Week 1: Who are you & What do you do???
Prep for Week 1!
Preparation for this week is really heavy and intensive. Please plan for this!! You will be printing out every thing, cutting out things and even creating a few things. You will need the following items:
- Binder for each student (I am having the kids bring these from home)
- Dividers (I have some created that I will add to the main Fun with Finance page)
- Profiles for each student
- Workbook for each student
- Poster board or a flip chart pad. A larger white board that you can take to class or that is up on the wall is perfect as well but don't buy one just for this!!)
- File folders for each student
- Colored paper, old magazines, etc for a collage project.
The Profiles!
The profiles are for each student. if you have more than 18 students you will need to work in teams for families with more than one adult. there are a total of 25 adults. If you have more than that, you may need to change a few names just to give you more. The profiles cover pretty much every situation that you may encounter in life--being single, being married, single motherhood, single fatherhood, being divorced, being widowed, etc.
The project has several different ways of divvying out the profiles to students. I have taken a different path, but not totally off base. I printed out each profile one sided and placed each one in a fun colored file folder. When the kids come in they will choose the color of their file folder. I will have boy and girl folders. Some of the profiles just have 1 male or 1 female. So I'll try to steer them in the right direction on that. (I only have 12 students so that will be easy enough to do.)
Each profile should be hole punched to fit in their binders. There is a divider titled Profile that you will want them to place this behind in their binders.

Profile Collage
After discussing the profiles, take time for everyone to get to know their family. An easy way to get them to do this is to create a collage. My plan is to use the file folder for this. After placing their profiles in their binders, have them trim their files in this manner:
Step 1: Cut off the tab from the "back side" of the file folder.
Step 2: Trim the "
