Vocabulary Plan
This is one of my projects. I am working on a study program for
vocabulary to prepare for SAT’s. My daughter is going to be in 9th grade
this fall. So I am planning on having plenty of time to get her ready.
This will be able to have a quicker plan as well. I do not have either
plan ready just yet as I just started this project. Keep patient with me
and we’ll get it done one step at a time.
My plan is based on the two lists below. One is a 5K word list and the other is 1K. I have combined them. Some words were on both lists and so the final project will be somewhere between 5-6K words when all is said and done.

The Original Vocabulary lists
5000 words
1000 words
5000 words
1000 words
I am breaking the study down by
alphabetical letter. Not by grade level. I think by working on each
letter it will be logical and not quite as frustrating in creating this
plan. Also for those on a faster course–ie trying to get their 10-11th
grader ready–it will make the student take it more seriously than
thinking with an “Oh those are baby words” attitude.
Below are the lists broken down by alphabetical letter. I am listing the words per letter as well. This is to help you plan until I get it all ready. I will add a page per letter as I get the downloads ready.

Activities
Flash Cards: To print
the flash cards you will need to download both parts. The first part is
marked by the number 1 in the file name. it is the front of the flash
card and it contains the vocabulary word. The second part is marked by
the number 2 in the file name. It is the back of the card and contains
the definition(s) and has an area for writing a sentence, and Antonym
(ANT) and a synonym (SYN). This is of course optional, but I figured it
would be easier to have it on the card then to have the student create a
second card for each word if you wanted them to do it.
I recommend after printing the cards that you keep them even after they have “mastered” them. Keep them for future reviews. If you are preparing for the SAT’s or ACT’s your child will need to keep sharp on all the words. If you keep them in a file box of sorts (an old shoebox will work just fine!) then it will help keep your words organized.
Here is a set of tabbed cards for your file box. http://www.mediafire.com/?1xwzkmdmyuz#
Wordsearch: There are two different downloads for the Wordsearch.
The first is the regular wordsearch. This contains aproximately 25 words per page. Not all words will be covered. The ratio is different for each page. As a general rule however it is approximately 25 used per every 50 vocabulary words. To explain the numbering of the pages: A.1 means letter A page 1==the page it is referring to is corresponding to the list found on the “A” vocabulary list download. So if your child is having problems figuring it out, you can give them a page to look at to narrow it down.
The second set is for the answers. Though I did not take the time to mark this set of wordsearches, the answers are written down for you. The code is given in an x,y coordinate. X is the column across, Y is the row down.
Crossword Puzzles: Pretty much the same basic layout as the wordsearch. The second set is the answers. This answer set has the answers in the crossword and a list of the answers.
